The Garden Summer was an experiment. Five strangers spent the summer of 2010 in rural Arkansas growing a large garden, attempting zero waste, selling at a local farmers market, and eating strictly within a 100-mile radius. The garden was chemical-free, and included everything from summer squash to lemon balm. What they couldn’t grow in the garden, they sourced at local farms. (Though they bought wine, coffee, and cooking oil not necessarily from the radius. Brave… but realistic.)
